Tips for a good crossword

Ten to twenty words make a nice puzzle. With only a few, the words have fewer letters to share.
Mix long and short words. Long words give the others something to cross.
Write clues like a friend would: "She makes the best pie" is more fun than "Grandmother".
Two words in one answer, like ICE CREAM, go in without the space. The number after each clue tells how many letters.
